My 2 Cents on Beneath the Surface by Kaira Rouda

Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an eARC of Beneath the Surface in exchange for my honest review!

When I was contacted about this book, I was immediately drawn in by how it was pitched as a cross between Succession and The White Lotus, especially as a huge fan of Succession (I’m still recovering from the series finale😅). I’m glad to say that Beneath the Surface lived up to my expectations as an absorbing dive into the wealthy and dysfunctional Kingsley family—a family that I couldn’t help but compare to the Roy family from time to time. The characters here are quite unlikable as the plot gradually builds up and reveals their dark secrets and insecurities, though we’re also able to sympathize with them and recognize their humanity. Once it reaches its satisfying conclusion, I was just left itching to know more about the Kingsleys. Thankfully, there will be a second book about them, which I’m looking forward to.

Overall, I recommend you pick up Beneath the Surface when it releases on September 5th, 2023.

Windup score: 80/100
