In the house today is microbiologist-turned-author Desirée Calderón de Fawaz, who wrote and illustrated the 2017 picture book Tata’s Earrings, then penned her debut novel Quetzalli’s Last Song, the first entry in the Brum Hesles Series. Listen to Arthur chat with her about topics like her former work in microbiology, the gorgeous illustrations in QLS, the strides that have (and haven’t) been made in regard to representation, and the importance of educating ourselves on climate change.

I live in my hometown of Seattle, Washington, where I'm delving into the career of a science-fiction author. The first story I dedicated myself to writing was about a young girl with telekinetic abilities. I'm still fascinated with superheroes, especially the ones in the Marvel Universe; it’s a tie between Spider-Man and Iron Man as my favorite. Coldplay, Ingrid Michaelson, Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, and The Killers are just a few of the artists you would find me listening to while writing. --- Twitter: arthur_ant18 --- Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/144101970-arthur-howell View all posts by Arthur Howell
